Zoe Share of Schmooz Media on Social Media Marketing

Hi, I’m Jessica and I’m Tracy and this is She’s on Top, the community where we celebrate women.Today with honey with Zoe Share. Zoe is the CEO of Schmooz Media, an online marketing consulting firm she founded five years ago. She is an expert in her field specializing in forward-thinking social media strategy, content marketing and community engagement development. Which is why we were thrilled when she reached out to us to become a She’s on Top ambassador. We sat down with her at her home to get her thoughts and insights on the future of social media. We were surprised by what she had to say. It’s something we had never heard before and it’s completely changed the way we’re marketing our brand going forward. There’s so many things being created for us to pay attention to and be impressed by but at the end of the day your value does not come from what’s happening on social media. Your value comes from the type of person you are. The things you put out into the world. The relationships you have with people. And those things can’t necessarily be showcased on social media. In some cases that can be but it’s not the end-all and be-all. And that’s coming from someone who makes a living doing social media for other people. It’s a tool. It’s not your whole life. The reason I love social media is because of the power of what it can do for small businesses. So I’m actually not that into social media myself. I find it exhausting and I prefer a book, hardcopy, not a Kindle, and a cup of tea, in the couch right over there. What it can do as a means to an end as a marketing purpose, that’s what I find so compelling about it. It’s about reaching an audience. It’s about engaging with that audience. And it’s about being genuine. So I know social media is so not about being genuine so often, but in my world in the schmooz world, that’s what we want to be doing is actually creating genuine content to connect with the right audience, which will get you the right results for your business. So for me social media is a way for you to get results for your business in an affordable and you know friendly type of a way. People get a lot wrong on social media. Mostly in that they’re trying to be something that they’re not. So you can be 20, you can be 40, you can be 60, and you can use social media in a way that’s genuine to you. So yes, there’s social media rules so to speak, in terms of hashtags and emojis and all different sorts of things like that. But at the end of the day if you don’t sound the same as you do in real life on social media someone’s gonna call your bluff eventually. So you know at the end of the day you have to go to sleep being comfortable with your business. Being comfortable with what’s going out about your business. And the same thought and care should go into those posts that would go into a conversation you’d have in real life. It’s gonna be more, even more pay to play in my opinion. It’s gonna be that if you want to reach your ideal consumer, you have to be the most ethical possible to reach that consumer, which means that not only the consumer gets paid for participating in an ad or participating in social media as well as the company itself getting paid. It’s really fascinating that the the consumer is gonna feel more in control about what they see and that’s gonna have huge implications for the advertiser, for the brand itself and for people using social media every day. People are gonna say, I don’t want to see this content unless I’ve given my express consent. I don’t want to see this content unless I’ve said that you can know that I’m a 30 year old woman who runs a business and has a child. That’s gonna become much more difficult for advertisers to find those people without consent. Running a business gets really hard and it’s easy to walk away. It really is. And it is easy to change directions and say I’m no longer sticking with this. But you have to be honest with yourself about what’s working. And what’s not working. And when you know deep down that it’s working it’s just gonna require a little more tenacity and a little more perseverance. You can’t give up. Those times that it feels really hard that’s usually the time when you’re just about to turn a corner. And annoying as it is, time and time again, I’m in the middle of one of those times right now, Where oh gosh, I could just just about turn a corner. It’s painful right now. But I have to remind myself don’t give up. Every other time that I’ve reached this, once I push through then it’s a whole new layer of amazing and it’s worth waiting for. It’s worth persevering through. Thanks for watching. If you enjoyed this video we would love if you would subscribe to our channel Give it a like and share it with your friends. 1. So happy you're back!! I was wondering where you were lately 😀 This was awesome as always (I like how Zoe spoke about Social Media being a tool)

  2. Love how she said we need to be thoughtful about what we post as we would about what we say in conversation! And oh my! Cute baby girl!!

  3. I really enjoyed this video. Zoe has some great insights. The pay to play she talks about is very interesting. I'd love to learn more.

  4. Ah, yes. Social Media is a great tool. People appreciate our coming across as comfortable as in real life. Being genuine without overdoing it goes a long way. She offered many good points.

So true that being honest with ourselves can be hard, indeed. I've had to make many changes in how I move forward with Social Media business goals, tweaking them here and there in my semi-retirement.
Perseverance is the positive way to go while doing the best I can in business, hobbies and in life.

Thank you, lovely ladies for yet another interesting and informative video.
