Pompeii – 1969 / Mad Men -Style Bastille Cover ft. Tony DeSare

I was left to my own devices Many days fell away with nothing to show And the walls kept tumbling down In the city that we love Grey clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from above But if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like Nothings changed at all? And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like You’ve been here before? How am I gonna be an optimist about this? x2 We were caught up and lost in all of our vices
In your pose as the dust settles around us And the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love Grey clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from above But if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like Nothings changed at all?
And if you close your eyes, Does it almost feel like
You’ve been here before? How am I gonna be an optimist about this? x2 Where do we begin?
The rubble or our sins? Where do we begin?
The rubble or our sins? And the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love Grey clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from above But if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like Nothings changed at all?
And if you close your eyes, Does it almost feel like
You’ve been here before? How am I gonna be an optimist about this?

  1. Love how much you guys have grown. The production value of this channel has hit the roof now! Your music still remains incredible, like it always has. Amazing

  2. Okay first complaint about this that it sounds way too good. It isn't fair to the original song if the cover is this awesome. My second complaint is there isn't nearly enough cowbell…

  3. The meaning of the song is perfect and the music too, I really like this song, its the best one I've ever listened. If you could make more music like this one I would fill my cellphone with them. Good work guys.

  4. I love this, especially cause you can tell how hard they work together at the start to get that syncopated rhythm going

  5. Honestly, this is my favorite from all their videos. I think many fail to the understand the context of the song, how the singer is morbidly accepting his faith. The kind of "weak" singing makes it even more powerful, showing the loss of hope and being cynical about what's occuring around him while slowly realizing that it's still the same since even before, everything was already falling apart.

  6. Yes, if I close my eyes, it feels like nothing's changed at all and like I've been there before! 🙂

  7. maybe i'm the asshole, maybe you need to hear it… what's up with the classy song and the VERY unclassy wrinkles in the arms of your sports jacket? It is hard to focus on the awesomeness of the some when you clearly do not know what an iron is for…. your suit looks used… it detracts from an otherwise awesome song… listen to your grandma, learn to iron.

  8. Fallout needs this music since it doesn't make sense if all people listened to same music from the 50's and under.
I also don't like how they force Fallout into the 60's and 70's they should add 20's – Mid 50's music along with classical covers like this one.
Though I'm aware Bethesda (being Beth) they prob wouldn't ever do that.

Edit: Maybe modders can do what beth can't and get approval for a radio mod.

  10. As soon as I heard the first "*clap* Ahhhh" I almost facepalmed (in a sort-of-good way); that part was so obvious. But then the horns kicked in and I was smiling. This is a PROPER mashup. Medleys that jump in and out of songs multiple times are always fun, but this cycles through three, AND ties it all together with the Pompeii melody.

No, not "ties it together." "Makes it complete" is more like it. The chorus brass rhythm fits so perfectly with the melody that I thought it couldn't possibly be pulled almost straight from another song. I've never watched Mad Men, never heard early Chicago, but listening to both I can hear every distinctive element in this and it blows me away. (Thank you, commenters from years ago, for identifying the origins I wasn't familiar with.)

I wish there were more like this so I didn't need a combination "In The Style Of / Mashups" playlist.

  11. I honestly love this channel, getting songs I pretty much had no interest in, and then turning them into old style, jazz kinda music.

  12. Idk, I think this would make a great duet at the climax of a musical with a plot similar to titanic or whatever. perhaps with parts of it retroactively turned into "callbacks" to earlier songs… "city we love" perhaps being the opening track, with the clouds being white, this(the video ) being a "reprise" or something along those lines
